As March quickly marches by, we are reminded that Spring is almost here! This means- (drum roll please!) HEARTWORM SEASON! Not that our babies can't get heartworms at any time of year, but now is when the mosquitoes come out in hoards. All it takes is one bite from a mosquito carrying heartworms and your pet can be infected. Did you know- Dogs AND cats can get heartworms! They are worms that enter the bloodstream and end up in the heart and lungs where they grow big and press on the heart, impede blood flow and physically cause heart failure.
So what do you do if your dog isn't on heartworm prevention? Schedule an appointment with us for an exam and heartworm check. The vet will look over your baby and make sure they are healthy and well, and run the test. If your pet is up-to-date on his yearly exam, but not on prevention- we can schedule just a heartworm check with a technician. We can't wait to hear from you!
